How the West strayed?

A westerner looking at the West may not think that the West strayed at all. He or she may think that the west ie Europe actually became enlightened and went into a renaissance and also came out of the dark ages of church control etc.
To an extent this is true but what they may not realise is that they went from one dark ages into another. The only difference being that the new dark age is very different from the old but that it is nevertheless still a dark age.

Let's look for the evidence for this?
On our planet why are people in this century still dieing of starvation yet on another part  many are spending money on dieting to get over the excessive food that exists in their country. And some coping with diseases due to excessive eating?
How is that? And what does that indicate? Say if you were an alien descended on this planet what would that say to you? When you observe such things. Is this a sign of enlightenment?
Are the rich societies of the earth working hard to alleviate the hardship and suffering of the poorer majority nations? Or do they leave them to die out while giving them some crumbs so that they don't feel so bad? Is this not the situation today?

And the fact that we don't seem to care enough to solve this problem seriously means what about us ? It's a reflection on the type of people we are. Or the type that we have BECOME. People who are too busy and locked into their own lives to worry about others in lands far away. Only ready to complain when we see foreigners who are fleeing the difficult lives they are escaping from when they try to settle in our country and we make sure hardship comes to them here too. Had we cared about eradicating the many problems abroad ( as opposed to causing some of them eg dropping depleted uranium bombs on certain counties) then many foreigners may not have come in the first place.

So what is going on? And is this enlightenment and renaissance? Or is it reality and us trying to close our eyes to it and painting it with fiction?

We seem to be good at advancing technology and scientific research, but we seem to be bad at using them to help all peoples. All humans. We just seem to care about ourselves. Our nation only. And work hard to compete with other nations in this.

Is this enlightenment? Is this renaissance? What is this??
Seems to me like people who are lost. Don't know what are the correct priorities. Nor how to be happy. Just they know a certain pattern of action that they believe they need to act in, and they act it. So they just act out a pattern of activity and simply repeat it. That is life. ( for them).
No thinking about the suffering going on in near by lands. No interest in solutions to those problems. Just interested to repeat an activity pattern. To repeat the routine. Whatever the routine may be.  This is our reality today as i see it. I am aware there are many many good souls who work hard to try to alleviate this suffering but they do it on their own as individuals. We don't do this as a society. Why not?
Instead the governments we elect make the life of those suffering societies harder by imposing conditions on how they can spend what little money they have when the richer counties give them loans. And where we make them pay interest on these loans rather than give them  this aid in charity. Is this enlightened i ask you? Are we in enlightenment? Or is this just another form of darkness?? How we treat others says a lot about us.
How we let bodies elected by us behave towards the less fortunate nations also says a lot about us. Either that we are ignorant of what is going on or we don't really care.
And this, for me, is neither humane not civilised. Yet we happily believe that this is how we are, humane and civilised.

I believe we need to stop this pretending and fake way of living. We need to start opening our eyes and see reality. We need to be real.
Those in power who are doing wrong we need to stop them doing their wrong. And we need to find out what is right and good to do.

We need to find our place in this universe and we need to question all that has been presented to us so far. Identify the errors and find the corrections to them. For too long we have been letting the TV and newspapers do our thinking for us.
True enlightenment, I believe, comes when we each take some steps back and re-asses the  situation we find ourselves in.  Start reflecting on our own independently rather than letting the Media point us in directions it thinks we should go. We can point directions for ourselves thanks very much Media. Leave us alone as those who own you may want us being directed in certain directions only ( directions that fit with their interests maybe) and may want us to avoid certain directions that clash with their interests. We don't want to be conditioned anymore. We've already used too much conditioner thanks to you. In the previous dark ages it was the church and the priests who were dishing out conditioner. In today's dark ages it is the Media who replaced them. We each have a priest in our living room. Telling us how to think. Saying "Muslims are like this. Jews are like that. God is like this.  And you don't need to think about your death. It's not going to happen. Just enjoy and continue buying the consumer products we keep showing you in our ads. This way the manufacturers keep getting their profits. And once overweight we will sell you fab diets. Don't worry your life is covered by us. Just sit back and enjoy. Keep your ears always open to what we say to you though. Especially during the news programs. Our main conditioners are squeezed out then. Keeping you all well conditioned and ready to think the way we want you to. And yes Ofcourse you are enlightened and civilised and humane and all the goody goody things. We love you. So love us back. Ta."

There you go , that is a taste of the type of conditioning we receive when watching daily. But it's quite subtle and we don't tend to realise it. It creeps on you until you have been sucked in. Always keep a healthy distance from the new priest. The new church. The church of materialism and love for money and profits. The church of Capitalism.
