How Islam really is ?
After discovering Sufism (a more spiritual practice of Islam similar to what the Gurus do in India) I have found Islam to be amazing really. In Sufism you see the spirit of Islam as opposed to just the form. This is not to say that there arent any fake Sufi groups , but when you find the genuine ones its quite an amazing journey. You become very closely connected to the Divine (Allah/God/Creator/Great Spirit, however you want to refer to It). This closeness is the Secret to it all. The best way to describe it is like being on mild cocain, but without the need for it. You get this connectivity through being on your own and repeating amazing mantras (called thickr in Arabic) that help cultivate a new mentality inside you. Eg you may repeat "There is no god but Allah" many times or simply the name "Allah, Allah, Allah" or the 99 beautiful names of Allah eg the Light, the Subtle, the Good, the Kind, the Seer, the one who responds to our prayer (Almujeeb), the Living, the Helper, the Protector, the Powerful, the all knowing , and so on. All very nice and beautiful names (aka attributes). In this way you constantly feed youself with positive words that charge up your postivity and you aquire a new personality through that is happier with life and more able to cope with its ups and downs. Another teaching you get is that all things that come to you are coming from God. And whatever comes from Him is actually good even if it appears bitter. And on top of that we are told that God only gives us things that we can cope with. So this helps as you realise that whatever comes your way, 1) you can deal with for sure, and 2) there is good in it for you.
Once you have this kind of mentality then life becomes more easy to navigate, and you start seeing the wisdom of what God is doing to you and where He may be taking you to. He is basically training us up and moving us to higher levels of reward and capability so that our next eternal life is the best kind we can get for ourselves (ie to reach highest levels in Heavens). But He pushes us up according to our ability. He only gives us what we can take, for He is merciful with His creatures. In this way you can choose how fast you climb up in Heaven. But when you ask for the highest levels (called Janatul Firdows) then it means the testing will become tougher, so you need to be prepared. But I should say that here you must have already believed (quite strongly) that Heaven does exist, and its not just a theory. If you have yet to aquire this level of faith then you need to work on that too, so that your level of certainty of the tenets of beleif are strengthened (eg you say this world cant have no point if it has an intelligent Creator. There must be an outcome to it all, and a reward and punishment kind of set up makes sense this way. Reward for the good doers and punishment for the evil doers.) Remeber that God is wise, and doesnt do things for no reason. There is massive wisdom behind His planning and His actions. And this means you throw away notions of we are here by chance and all this kind of nonsense. There is instead intelligent and wise design and planning. All timing is also well timed and with purpose. We are dealing with a being that can literally do everything. Becuase His/Its nature (remember He is neither male nor female) is infinite, ie not limited by anyone or anything becuase no one set any limits on It. He/It is unque. Extremely unique. (this is why He is one and not two for instance).
And I should say also, that Knowledge of God is key. The more we know Him, the better for us. Infact we are here for this purpose specifically. Because once we know more about His amazing nature we become more and more amazed by It, and we can fall in love with It. Because It is a loving entity. But at the same time Mighty and Glorious. What an amazing thing !!
This is why they say that God is Great !! Becuase He/It literally is Great , meaning amazing. Vast amounts of power is in His hands, as well as wisdom and a lovely personality too ! But at the same time He has made himself hidden from us. So we cant see Him with our bodilly eyes. But our mind can tell us that He/It must exist, else how everything can come to exist ! But what It is we dont know. It is beyond us. It is higher than us. Its a superpower. And you slowly start realising that we are and have been all living with It, but many of us not aware of that cos the TV never mentioned Him except to mock that He exists. The TV is controlled by those who dont want us to "see" Him. So it busies itself trying to redicule Him unfortunately. In this way many are led away from His path and towards the path of those who are against God and dont want people to believe in Him. This is our situaiton today unfortunately, and we need to break out of the lie matrix and go into the Truth matrix. And we do this through seeking the Truth. By using the mind that God created for us. Its a really powerful tool. We use it to discern what makes sense from what doesnt. And then our hearts will tell us to follow the path that makes sense and forget about the ones that dont. In this way we mature and learn and ascend in life. We navigate through and head towards the Truth matrix, and leave the lie one. Lies means darkness and Truth means Light. And I really like Jesus (peace be upon him's) saying "Seek the Truth and the Truth will set you free". It really does set you free (by the way in Islam we believe Jesus was a prophet of God and that he fortold about the next prophet after Him who will come for all mankind and not just the Jews).
So this is basically a short description of what Islam really is. I hope it was beneficial to read through it. Feel free to pose any questions. I will try to answer.
All the best

PS: Unfortunately the Sufis are still a minority although they are increasing in number and Sufism is becoming more acceptable amongst Muslims. It came under attack by the Wahabis and Salafis when they started up some 50 years ago but now their influence is declining thankfully and the Truth is slowly coming through again. The main difference in Sufism is that there is a proper teacher or master who has been specially trained to teach Islam by teachers who themselves have a chain of teaching all the way up to the Prophet peace be upon him, whereas the other groups dont do this and just learn by reading books and think that this is enough. ie like learning carpentary from books only and not from a real carpenter who has been trained himself by another carpentar. The result is that with true Sufis you see the Spirit of the path as well as the form, whereas with Salafism you see mainly the form but not the spirit. Also Love is the main driving force in Sufism, whereas fear maybe the main one in Salafism/Wahabism. One is fully mature and the other is DIY, so the difference is quite big. But slowly God willing the Muslims will improve, as they are receiving a lot of punishment from God for their poor understanding and implementation of Islam. This punishment should drive them to think more deeply about what is wrong with their current path.
