My advice to the labour movement
(Plz pass on and spread)
Dear Labour movement,
I am a believer and have found that there is some injustice within your movement. I would like you to investigate this injustice please and try to correct it.
Being a believer in the Divine and also a socialist ( believing in caring for the poor etc) I have experienced significant resistance when making statements where I call upon the Divine to help , for example, put JC in power because he is a deserving person. However I have found that on including such references I get criticised for bringing religion in politics. I believe this is unacceptable criticism for the following reasons:
1- Believing in the Divine doesn't necessarily mean you are following religion. There are many who are spiritual and connect with the Divine without using religion. Especially without organised religion.
2- I don't believe it is very correct to believe that religion should not mix with politics. I think the more correct position is to believe that religion should not mix with the state ( I mean here the state apparatus such as parliament and voting etc). Because in a secular democracy one can still set up a political party based on religion ( see the Christian democrats in Germany for instance, or the Islamic party of Britain ). So here religion is clearly mixing. And it is fine I believe as long as the state apparatus is neutral and has no religion. Like how a knife and fork are not religious, but are just apparatus used for eating. So I feel that our definition and understanding of secularism needs better scrutiny.
3- If your movement continues behaving in this negative and unfair way then all it will do is decrease its support base. Why not become fairer and win a bigger support base instead ?
4- I do know that there maybe communists and radical atheists in the party and those may have a deep hatred for the Divine but they should not be allowed to impose their personal beliefs on everyone else. Just as religious folk should not impose their beliefs on others. People should be free to express their feelings and views when they are not imposing any beliefs on anyone. Making a reference for Divine help is not an imposition on anyone is it? Those who don't like rhetoric with such references can learn tolerance surely.
Many thanks and I hope you can address this issue for the sake of fairness. I seek only that. I have now been affected by this issue in this election and the previous one. And by admins of discussion groups as well as normal members.
Best Regards
