My recent experience with some homeless people in the UK
This was with a charity that helps the homeless in Manchester. I was delivering some clothes donations for the cold winter as they had been making requests for the public to help. Things like jackets and warm clothing.
Anyway I saw three homeless as well as the guy heading the charity. We were sat in a takeaway shop in that area. Many of them give free food to the homeless in that town by arrangement with that charity. In return they get good publicity on the charity's Facebook page 'Hope 4 homeless and Bolton Dawa team' as well as the good feeling when you help out those in need and who are suffering. I ended being pictured too :-) .
So what did I see and learn there sitting with them. They were eating pizza and chips and had a can of drink each.
First of all , one thing i noticed about the homeless. They tend to not eat much and they also tend to be very humble and kind I think. They have a difficult life and so I assume this teaches them these qualities. The other thing is that many of them are people with various kinds of mental illness or could be learning difficulties. Two of them had some mental/learning difficulty I think. Yet were very nice souls I think. Yet they were homeless. Maybe they were too much of a burden for their relatives to look after, or the council, due to financial constraints imposed by the gov, could not include them in their limited budget for social care. So they ended up on the street. I can't really blame the councils as their budgets are limited. But I can blame those who caused the austerity problem, the rich greedy corrupt bankers. For whom greed is something to be proud of. They don't see it as corruption. They lost their souls a long time ago. And money became their main god, and whom they worship daily. Without regard to consequences. In fact some may see the death of disabled people as part of social Darwinism where the fittest only get to survive. So they are ok with others suffering because in their eyes they may see this part of the natural way. And so they get on with their lives like everything is fine.
Anyway, I digress sorry. So two had mental issues and you couldn't really have a meaningful discussion with them. One of them was a young man (almost baby like in personality) and the other slightly older I think but with beautiful manners. A Very gentle spoken black man. And they are not really demanding. You give them food, they eat and go. Weird. Like they are busy with other chores that they have to do. Or maybe they have learnt not to expect much from society. They have given up on us and are busy with their journey outside us. Each is in their own world.
The third guy, John I believe his name is, was very different. This guy was an intellectual and had been busy writing 3 or 5 fiction books I believe. I was very surprised but he then went on to tell me the stories behind them and why he wrote them (not sure he completed them all though). And the reason behind writing fiction was very clever indeed. There was a point. And it went back to how society has become. He was trying to send a message to society. He is saying that society now no longer cares about the problems of the homeless, or the real problems of society in general. That society can't cope with dealing with the real problems and so people have decided its best just to focus on the small issues like what's on tv and work and so on. Mundane things that is. Handling reality has become too much. So it's like people live in bubbles now so as to protect themselves from the harshness that exists. Whether it's bankers getting away with destroying economies or with homelessness spreading everywhere. If they just focus on their job , their family and the tv then all will be well. But he knows that people do read fiction eg The Matrix or Harry Potter so he said that this maybe a good way to reach the people. He wanted to write a book that after reading it they would be filled with a nice happy feeling so that after looking out at reality again they would then be able to better see the injustices that exist. And then maybe do something. John is a very warm man but can get passionate about his views.
So this is a sample of the people who are homeless in Bolton in Manchester. I also learnt of an interesting way of how the establishment looks at the masses and which can explain why we have homelessness. Apparently we maybe be viewed as investments, each identified by an NHS number or some other id. They invest in us a certain amount up till education but then they expect 50 or 70 years of work from us as a return on their investment. Those that cannot do this return are forgotten and abandoned . So the homeless are like the rejects of this investment process. Expected to wither and die. The rest are used as batteries to drive the system much like how the Matrix film portrays the masses. Makes sense to me this view. But hard to stomach obviously.
So this was my experience yesterday visiting the homeless. I hope it's a useful insight.
